Where Life Meets Politics!

One of my readers was awesome enough to post 2 comments to the Guns in Danger Posting from yesterday. She posted two links that I feel are very important for all to see, and not to be missed by being in a comment. So I am re-posting them here in this blog entry. Please, PLEASE do me and you a favor and check out both of these. They are in his own words. The rights granted you by the 2nd Amendment are in danger if Obama is elected, there is no other way to put it.

I realized recently that I had never written a blog entry about the 2008 Army Birthday Ball back in June. Christine and I went again this year because we had such a great time last year. Who knows how much longer we will be able to go, so we might as well go while we can. I was glad to link up with my friend Eve, who was in Afghanistan the same time I was. The venue was different from last year and even though we did not have our best friends there this year like we did last year, we still had a good time. I have to say that the highlight for me was seeing Vice President Cheney in person. I knew something was up when they had us going through metal detectors while entering the ballroom, but at the time President Bush was out of the country so I knew it was not him. Anyway, VP Cheney was the guest speaker and surprised everyone there I believe. I wish I would have had a chance to meet him personally but that was not possible as he had to leave shortly after he finished the speech.

Another person that was a surprise to see while we were there but did not realize it at the time, was LTG Hathaway. LTG Hathaway was the host of the event and even though she flubbed a few lines, including almost forgetting the name of the Sergeant Major of the Army, just a week or so after the Ball she was recommended to be a 4 star General, which would make her the first female to ever achieve that rank.

Like I said at the beginning, I was able to introduce my wife to Eve and they hit it off great. We talked with her for a long time, and in fact met up with her for lunch two days later and ended up visiting for about four hours over lunch before Eve drove us up to Union Station.
Overall it was a really good time. I think I liked the venue last year better and of course last year we got to meet and talk with Dave Worley which was nice. They had several acts this year, but nobody as popular as Mr. Worley.

In his weekly radio address President Bush said, "Election season brings out the spirit of competition between our political parties, and that competition is an essential part of a healthy democracy. But as the campaigns come to a close, Republicans, Democrats, and independents can find common ground on at least one point: Our system of representative democracy is one of America's greatest strengths."

Libya has paid $1.5 billion into a fund to compensate the families of American victims of Libyan-linked terror attacks in the 1980s, clearing the last hurdle in full normalization of ties between Washington and Tripoli.
Car bombs rather than Obama, making it home rather than McCain dominate the talk among many U.S. Soldiers in Iraq's deadliest city during the final countdown to America's presidential election.
U.S. deaths in Iraq fell in October to their lowest monthly level of the war, matching the record low of 13 fatalities suffered in July. Iraqi deaths fell to their lowest monthly levels of the year.
