Marines taking the fight to the enemy

I know this article is a few months old, but it is such a good one I wanted to get it out there. This is a long story, but a great one. There have not been a lot of in-depth stories from the 24th MEUs deployment, so I felt it was important to spread the word.

General: Iran Backs Off Lethal EFP Bomb

Iran is no longer actively supplying Iraqi militias with a particularly lethal kind of roadside bomb. Metz estimated that U.S. forces find between 12 and 20 of the devices in Iraq each month, down from 60 to 80 earlier this year.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev chose the day after Barack Obama's election victory to brandish a threat of ballistic missiles. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said of the president-elect: "I hope he doesn't end up being one more imperialist." As for Al-Qaida, it likened Barack Obama to a favored slave doing his master's bidding.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates urged Middle East nations to support the fight against terror Saturday then traveled to Iraq to meet with commanders as the U.S. prepares to cut its troops levels and begin to pull forces out of the cities.

In development for most of the past decade, an experimental craft is now plying local waters as its developers fine-tune its thinking. "We're not giving the boat a script -- we're giving it a goal," said Eric Hansen of the Combatant Craft Department at the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

The U.N. confirmed a mass grave in northern Afghanistan was disturbed, raising the possibility that evidence supporting allegations of a massacre seven years ago may have been removed.

Airman Faces Court-Martial for Rape

An Air Force Academy Airman will be court-martialed Monday on charges that he raped two women during a string of sexual assaults and other crimes at the base last year.
